On January 12, 2023, a workshop was held in Ouagadougou to present the results of the preliminary assessment of the market for SRH products in Burkina Faso.
Following the primary market assessment carried out by RESADE and its partners, Research for Development (R4D) and Réseau Accès aux Médicaments Essentiels (RAME), it was felt necessary to discuss the results with stakeholders, and above all to gather their observations, amendments and guidelines for better shaping the market for SRH products in Burkina Faso.
Chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, the meeting was attended by some 50 participants.
The SEMA representative, Mr Pape Gueye, began by setting the context for SEMA and its goal of improving the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) market. Next, Ms Gamo Tounkara defined SEMA’s vision, mission and principles.
Dr Noëlie KONSEBO and Dr Charlemagne TAPSOBA of RESADE presented the methodology and results of the preliminary market evaluation.
Following the discussions that followed these presentations, the participants were led through group work to analyze the relevance of the preliminary gaps that had been identified by the consortium, to analyze the findings that had led to the identification of these gaps, and finally to analyze the framework’s indicators in terms of relevance to market evaluation and in terms of feasibility.
The workshop closed with a thank-you to the participants and an announcement of the next steps to be taken. Participants were reminded that this workshop was only a first step, and that further workshops should follow to establish a dynamic ecosystem for improving access to sexual and reproductive health services.
